Presentations
at Professional Conferences
San Francisco is a major hub for scientific conferences, with most of them held at the Moscone Convention Center, which is located in the close vicinity of the SFUGC. San Francisco is also an academic powerhouse, hosting major US universities: UCSF, SFSU, USF, GGU, and SFBU. San Francisco is very close to Silicon Valley. Therefore, SFU students have ample opportunities to participate in and present at major, professional national, and international meetings and conferences, as well as contribute to the vibrant intellectual endeavors here.
Participation in professional conferences is of paramount importance for successful careers for the following reasons:
> meeting and getting personally acquainted and networking with other professionals (potential employers and residency directors);
> getting the most current updates on the recent developments in the field of the professional career (an asset in presenting an attractive employment bid or residency application);
> polishing public presentation skills (essential during job or residency interviews);
> becoming known in the medical, scientific, and/or technology communities.
> joining professional societies.
